Theatre. 1899 by Frank Matcham. Red brick with buff terracotta. Facade of 4 storeys
the upper set back. Three main bays, the centre widest, the outer ones topped by
octagonal towers with copper ogee domes. Projecting central entrance with arch
surmounted by broken pediment with statue over. Four round windows above, with
ornamental terracotta surrounds. Single storey Doric colonnade to either side of
projecting entrance. Arched windows to outer bays. Towers have oral windows and
terracotta consoles. Terracotta balustrade over centre and to either side of entrance,
and iron balustrade above colonnade. Modern entrance canopy.
Fine marble and wood panelled entrance hall and staircase. Elaborately decorated
auditorium.
