Designed by Sir Robert Taylor. Completed 1767 as a weekend retreat for
Sir Charles Asgill, Lord Mayor of London. Illustrated in Vol IV of Vitruvius
Britannicas.
Three storeys high, 5 windows wide with a projecting canted central bay on the river
front with wings either side. Central pedimented bay to first floor. Altered and
extended in the C19 but recently restored to its original appearance. Stone-faced
with rusticated ground floor. Slated roof with deep bracketed eaves. Windows arched
to ground floor, square headed sashes above. Inside on the first floor the octagan
room contains paintings by Andrea Casali.
