On the site of the Palace Middle Gate. Important early C18 house. Built for
Mr Hill, the brother of Mrs Masham.
The principal elevation faces the garden. It is of 2 storeys and 11 bays wide
with a central pedimented portico with 2 pairs of Doric columns and triglyph frieze.
The back faces Old Palace Yard. It is 2 storeys high, 10 bays wide (4:1:5) with
the centre bay projecting and the left-hand bays set back. Brick-faced with modillion
eaves cornice. The centre bay is gabled with late C18/early C19 stucco facing.
The name is derived from 2 medieval figures of trumpeters which used to stand outside
the Old Palace Yard entrance.
