Patten Alley (now stone-flagged) was one of the original paths through the open
fields of C17 Richmond. In 1696 the line of the path was diverted to the east
slightly at its south end by the owner of Clarence House, The Vineyard (q.v.) to
make room for a more respectable forecourt.
C18 red and plum brick wall on west side. On the east side a C19 yellow stock brick
wall.
