Circa 1928. Architect Charles Cowles-Voysey. Red brick with blue brick ground floor and
rendered coved cornice. Roof not visible. Irregular building and facade. 4
storeys, 3 bay facade with slightly recessed, northern 1 bay tower. Centre double
doors with narrow flanking windows under flat hood. Above 3 small windows below
iron balcony on corbels which fronts 3 large round arched windows. Top floor has
a band of smaller windows below the eaves.
Plaque records that Mahatma Gandhi stayed here in 193l.
Interesting interior with vaulting above windows and stained glass window (by
Eugene Yoors, Belguim) to George Lansbury.
