Lock. C1830, C20 alterations. Brick chamber with stone and brick coping. 2 sets of double wooden gates, top gates with steel balance beams, bottom gates with rare cast iron balance beams. Ground paddle gearing at top, gate paddle gearing at bottom. Wing walls with brick, stone and concrete coping. Brick heel grips and brick paved lockside surfaces. The Hertford Union Canal, linking the Regent's Canal with the River Lea Navigation, opened in 1830.
