Early C18 front. 2 storeys colourwashed brick, 5 sash windows. Angle pilasters,
band to floor level, parapet. Central door with heavy hood on brackets. 4 semi-
circular stone steps with moulded nosings. Old tile roof with 3 flat-topped
dormers; end stacks. To right hand a single storey addition with half-hipped
tile roof and C19 front possibly added by Arthur Hughes as his studio. To rear
elevation, 2 gabled wings with rendered facing, possibly timber-framed. Formerly
and still potentially attractive grounds eg 2 small octagonal pools in front
of house. Arther Hughes [1832-1915] the pre-Raphaelite painter lived in this
house until 1891 but continued to own it thereafter until his death.
