Formerly Carshalton Council Offices. Opened in 1908; designed by R Frank Atkinson
and W Willis Gale. Entrance front of 2 storeys, 5 window bays. Deep hipped
slate roof. Heavy paired modillion eaves cornice. Red and blue brick front.
Band. Long and short quoins. Plinth. 2-light leaded casements with wood frames,
ground floor windows transomed. 2 semi-circular stone steps rise up to centre
doorway of stone; rusticated pilasters; large keystone; open segmental pediment;
2 stone scrolls rise above pediment to frame centre 1st floor window. South-east
elevation of 2 storeys, 3 window bays.
Northern part of Library comprises former Fire Station, also by Atkinson.
