Terraced house. 1727-29 by Robert Phillips, bricklayer, early C.19
attic- storey. Brown brick with red brick dressings, slate roof.
3 storeys, basement, attic storey and dormered mansard. 2 windows
wide. Doorway to right with wood doorcase having panelled reveals and
framing pilasters supporting entablature with grotesque mask.
Recessed sash windows under segmental brick arches, vertically laced
by red brick dressings. Stone cornice over 2nd floor, parapet with
coping. 1st floor cast iron balconettes. Wrought iron area railings.
Interior retains original plan with staircase between front and back
rooms, the balustrade of cast iron and wood an elegant alteration of
c.1845, otherwise the interior decoration in C.18 style by White Allom
with simplification and more distinctly Vogue classical treatment by
Syrie Maugham in the 1930s, in particular the 2nd floor rear bedroom
and the mirror glazed bathroom with reeded glass quoin pilasters etc.
