Town "villa". 1908 by F M Elgood. Red brick and Portland stone, slate roof.
Vigorously detailed Free Style "Queen Anne". 2 storeys and dormered mansard on
basement. 4 windows wide, the outer bays being canted with shaped gables above.
Entrance left of centre with boldly consoled and cornice hooded doorway.
Mullioned and transomed windows with leaded lights, those in ashlar canted bays
with segmental label mouldings. Garlanded round windows in heavily swagged
shaped gables and segmental headed 4 light attic window over centre above
eaves. The canted bay parapets are finished off with ball finials and the
shaped gables have heavily moulded copings. Cast iron area railings with
scrollwork and urn finials. Part of an early C20 attempt by the Portland
(Howard de Walden) Estate to restore the domestic residential character of an
area deemed too professional. Included for group value only.
