14.3.66 Nos 54 to 57(consec)
Terraced town houses. 1770s Portland Estate development, probably by John
White. Stock brick with channelled stucco ground floors; slate roofs. Broad
semicircular arched doorways (except for No 57 with plain square headed archi-
traved doorway) paired to Nos 54 and 55, with stucco rustications and Coade
guilloche ornamented imposts, linked to Nos 54-55, and head keystones; panelled
doors, side lights and fanlights in plain Venetian composition. Recessed sashes,
under flat gauged arches to upper floors. Plat band over ground floor stuccowork.
Parapets with copings. Victorian cast iron balconies, except for No 55, with
early C19 anthemion patterned bowed balconettes. Original urn finialed area
railings to Nos 54 and 57, plumbed spike finialed cast iron railings to others.
Interiors retain good features with wrought iron balustraded stone staircases,
plasterwork and statuary marble chimneypieces dressed with Ionic columns or
pilasters; etc.
