Corner house with Balfour Mews q.v. c. 1898-99, by Balfour and Turner
as part of redevelopment of this part of Mayfair for the Grosvenor
Estate. Red brick and Portland stone dressings, plain tiled roof.
Restrained Arts and Crafts detailing of late C17 domestic derivation.
3 storeys basement and dormered attic in gable end and half hipped
roofs. 2 irregular bays. Right hand half of front projects on ground
and 1st floors with cornice-hood doorway and flush framed glazing bar
sash light, rectangular window above. Coupled flush framed segmental
arched glazing bar sashes to recessed left hand portion. Coved eaves
cornice and casement dormers. Gabled return to mews with irregular
fenestration and corbelled external stack. This elevation projects
from building line of mews and balances the related No. 23 South
Street q.v. Cast iron area railings with Arts and Crafts detailing.
