Former district post office. 1883-84 by E.G. Rivers or possibly
James Williams. Portland stone, slate roof. Knowledgeable and dignified
Roman High Renaissance design. 3 tall storeys and dormered mansard.
6 windows wide. Ground floor has entrance to right balanced by covered way
entrance to left, all framed by Doric pilasters carrying entablature, the
windows and door architraves being coved and enriched with horizontal
fluting. Architraved sash windows to upper floors, those on "piano nobile"
with console bracketed pediments and blind balustraded aprons. 1st floor
frieze has plaques monogrammed "V.R.". Sill course to 2nd floor enriched
with guilloche band. Main entablature with dentil cornice and balustraded
