Large terrace house, 1876 by J. T. Wimperis. Portland ashlar, slate
roof. Beaux Arts and Renaissance detailing. 2 windows wide, right hand
of 4 storeys with steep dormered mansard. Left hand of 3 storeys, single
storey north wing and basement. 2 storey arched porch to left. Channelled
ground floor. Canted bay window from basement to 2nd floor to right of 3
sash lights; 5 arcaded windows to 3rd floor. Semicircular arched let and
2nd floor windows to left. Moulded string and sill courses, bracketed
main cornice with balustrade; segmental pedimented stone dormer to mansard
attic over right hand 3rd floor. The wing has acanted bay window and
a crowning balustrade. Ornate bracketed cast iron balcony to 1st floor;
ornate cast iron area railings. Interior has decoration probably of
early C20. Heavy marble staircase with urn-shaped balusters. Ground
floor right room has modillion cornice and panelling perhaps C18
imported. Ballroom to rear has deep covered frieze, ceiling of lattice
panels and rosettes, walls divided by composite pilasters and having
Rococo shaped panels with trophies and all manner of ornamental plaster
motifs; also two large carved marble, chimney pieces.
