Terraced town house. c.1731 with c.1792 alterations. Brown brick with
red brick window dressings, channelled stucco ground floor, slate roof.
4 storeys (top floor c.1792 heightening), and basement. 4 windows wide.
Square 3 room plan similar to No 39 qv but without front staircase.
Semicircular arched doorway in 2nd bay from left in plain stucco
surround, recessed panelled door and fanlight. Recessed plate glass
sashes under flat gauged red brick arches. Cornice-band over ground
floor and 1st floor sill band finishing off stuccowork; parapet with
coping. Cast iron area railings with urn finials. Interior altered but
retains plain panelling above 1st floor, and the rear 1st floor room has
fielded panelling and carved wood pilasters to chimneypiece, etc. Cut
and carved string staircase with 2 balusters per tread and clustered
curtail. Part of the Craven family's C.18 development of their Brewhouse
estate, laid out by Flitcroft.
