Built to incorporate commercial premises on ground and first floors. c.1904 by
Treadwell and Martin. Ashlar faced. Free Gothic-Flemish design with Arts and Crafts
touches. Four tall storeys and gable ground and first floors taken up by full width
shop and display windows expressed as one large opening framed by piers with foliated
capitals and a boldly moulded elliptical arch with cartouche keystone, carrying a
cornice hood from which a pair of thin ribs rise full height of facade to frame the
gable window. Above the first floor the 2 bay elevation is flanked by bold shafts
supported on carved corbels and crowned by domical caps. Shallow oriel bows through
second and third floors surmounted by curvilinear hood moulds on consoles. The steep
gable has tabernacle feature on apex.
