Terraced town houses. c.1790-1800 Portland Estate development, continuing
Upper Wimpole Street. Stock brick with rusticated or channelled stucco
ground floors; slate roofs. 5 storeys. 3-window wide fronts. Wide
elliptical arched doorways to right; panelled doors, side lights, panelled
jambs, except for No. 14 with pilaster jambs and no sidelights, fluted or
moulded doorheads and fanlights. Recessed sashes, in stucco reveals under
flat gauged arches to upper floors. Plat band finishing off stuccowork at
1st floor level. Parapets with copings; 4th floor string course and
crowning cornice to Nos. 15 and 16. Cast and wrought iron early to mid
C.19 patterned continuous 1st floor balconies. Cast iron area railings
with urn finials intact to No. 16, the rest with tasselled spike finialed
railings.
