Terraced houses forming west side of square. c.1815-20 Portman Estate
development. Stock brick with channelled stucco ground floors; concealed
slate roofs. 4 storeys and basement. 3-window wide fronts. Semicircular
arched doorways to right up to adjoining pair in centre then to left;
panelled doors in Greek Doric column jambs carrying Greek key enriched
head, fanlights, some patterned. Recessed sashes, under flat gauged
arches to upper floors. Plat band over ground floor crowning stucco
cornice and blocking course. 1st floor cast iron geometric-anthemion
pattern balconies. Urn finialed area railings. Nos. 26-28 was the home
of George Grossmith (G.L.C. plaque).
