59/3 Nos. 42 and 43
Artisans' dwellings and shops. c.1897 by R S Wornum as part of Broad Court
scheme. Red brick with stone dressings, slate roof. Queen Anne - Arts
and Crafts, slightly asymmetrical. 3 storey and attic paired gabled fronts,
each 2 windows wide; 4 window irregular return to Broad Court with off centre
gable. Ground floor has 2 large segmental arched openings, with keystones,
framing shop windows and wood pilastered doorways. Upper floors have tripartite
and single segmental arched sash windows. Stone cornice beneath gables,
the left hand one containing Diocletian attic window. The return has segmental
arched windows and doorway with architrave head swept to point beneath cornice
as on No. 19 Broad Court. Included for group value,with Broad Court, only.
