Commercial premises and works. c.1875-80. Red brick with stucco or
painted stone dressings, slate roof. Commercial High Victorian Gothic. 4
tall storeys. 5 bays wide,the outer bays very slightly advanced and
gabled. Office entrance in left hand gabled bay with foliate capped
granite pilasters on pedestals to jambs, brick and stone voussoirs to arch
finished off with pointed drip mould and sun flower patterned cut brick
spandrels. Works entrance to right hand bay under deep lintel. Centre 3
bays of ground floor have large, 4-light, double transomed windows between
pedestalled, cast iron, foliate capped pilasters; deep lintel carried
across. The upper floors have large 3-light windows with their moulded
mullions curved out at top (rather as hammer-heads) to support the lintels;
those in the flanking bays on 2nd and 3rd floors are contained in through-
storey pointed arched recesses with cut and moulded brickwork to tympana
and arches. The centre 3 bays have cut brick strings between storeys and
enriched painted stone eaves cornice running between gables of flanking
