Row of terraced houses terminating in corner public house. c.1800-20 Portman
Estate development. Stock brick with channelled stucco ground floor; slate roofs.
4 storeys and basements with dormered mansards, Nos 16 and 18 of 5 storeys.
2-window wide fronts. Entrances to right except for No 22 and worcester Arms which
has entrance on George Street return; Nos 12 and 16 have square-headed doorways and
fanlights in stucco architraves, No 16 with half pilasters carrying architrave
cornice; Nos 14, 18, 20 and 22 have semicircular arched doorways and architraves,
enriched Coade imposts, and fanlights; No 14 with Ionic half pilasters carrying
entablature with decorated frieze and central cartouche. Recessed sash windows,
under flat gauged arches to upper floors. George Street return of Worcester Arms
has altered public house front under entablature fascia. Stucco plat band over
ground floor; modillion cornice and balustraded parapet (except No 16 with bracke-
ted cornice and blocking course and No 18 with blocking course only). Original
geometrical pattern cast iron balconies to 1st floor, Nos 12 and 22 with balco-
nettes. Cast iron area railings with urn finials (No 12 later C19 railings). Part
of one of the most extensive and intact sequences of Georgian terraced houses in
London.
