Nos 7, 7A
Terrace house c.1772 built as part of adjoining row by Sir Robert Taylor. Stock brick,
slate roof. Facade largely rebuilt between the wars in neo Georgian fashion, of 3 main
storeys with parapeted attic above the cornice projecting timber shop front and first
floor show window. To right: round arched house entrance with original decorated
fanlight and entablatured entrance to No 7A to left in corner. Plain rear elevations
with canted bay, unaltered. The interiors retain considerable amount of Taylor's
work. Doorway No 7 gives into original barrel vaulted corridor with decorative
plasterwork leading through Doric column screen to apse ended top lit stairwell with
scrolled wrought iron balustrade to cut string stone stairs. Doorway No 7A gives into
hall with Doric column screen and wrought iron balustraded staircase. First floor
rooms to No 7 in corner and to rear retain original plasterwork with some neo-Georgian
additions, ornate marble chimneypiece in Louis XV style.
