Terrace house. Late C17, altered and with good early C19 shop front but retaining a
number of original features. Stock brick with red brick, concealed roof. 5 storeys
and basement, the top 2 floors early C19 additions. 3 windows wide. Ground floor
has intact early C19 shop front, the house door to left probably late C17/C18 with 8
fielded panels contained in same frame as shop front doorway with slender flanking
reeded pilasters, the display windows project on iron brackets each side of doorway
and retain glazing bars; overall is a continuous fascia with inswept ends and
moulded cornice. Upper floors have recessed sash windows with flat gauged arches.
Those of 1st and 2nd floors retaining original red bricks. Stucco plat band over 1st
floor and C19 cornice over 2nd floor, parapet with coping. Cast iron area railings
contemporary with shop front, of braced square panel pattern. Interior retains part
of original passage panelling, dog leg staircase of c.1730 type but with alterations,
the compartment walls rising to 1st floor vestibule retain however late C17 bolection
panelling; 1st floor front room has enriched cornice; 2nd floor including late C17
secondary stairs retains dado panelling and chimneypieces etc.
