House and shop. Rebuild of 1842 including shop for Hopkins and Purvis, colourmen.
Stock brick, concealed roof. 4 storeys (formerly with open basement). 2 windows
wide. Ground floor has original shop front with house door to right and 2 display
windows flanking shop doorway, all framed by wooden pilasters supporting entablature
- fascia with dentil cornice and carved bracket stops; panelled house door and
panelled and glazed shop door with shutters, both with rectangular fanlights; small
panes to display windows on panelled risers. Upper floors have recessed glazing bar,
sashes in stucco architraves, those on 1st floor with cornices on consoles, bracketed
sills. Stucco string course over 2nd floor and crowning stucco modillion cornice and
blocking course. Large swivel hoist ornamented with scrolled ironwork below lefthand
1st floor window.
