Terrace town house. 1720 by Thomas Ripley, altered in 1862 by Owen Jones and again
internally early C20 by F W Foster. Brown brick, slate roof. Three storeys and
attic. Five windows. Painted stone cornice; rusticated quoins and plat band above
ground floor. Revealed sash windows under cambered gauged arches. Cast iron
balconettes to first floor. Doorway framed by Corinthian pilasters and entablature.
To right and incorporated in the same premises is the former 1826 rectory of St
George's Hanover Square rebuilt in brown brick with early Georgian details in keeping
with No 16, by Wimperis Simpson and Guthrie, 1937. Interior of ground floor of No 16
altered as showroom but retains 2 handsome marble chimneypieces probably late C18 and
C18 lyre pattern wrought iron balustrade to staircase, though the stairs may be a
1930s reconstruction.
