Corner terraced town house. c.1773, Portland Estate development, possibly
by John White in partnership with the plasterer Thomas Collins, altered
and refaced to front and side, c.1900. Portland stone facing with
channelled ground floor; slate roof. 4 storeys (including attic storey)
on basement. 3 windows wide. Irregular return to New Cavendish Street
and projecting single storey rear wing. Harley Street front has
projecting doorway to left, with architrave case incorporating fluted
panel over doorhead and cornice hood on console brackets. Recessed sashes
in architraves, those on 1st floor with alternating triangular and
segmental pediments on consoles, projecting sills with iron guards on
corbel brackets. 1st and 2nd floor windows/linked by plain apron panels
and panels between 2nd floor window heads and main cornice. Flank return
to New Cavendish Street has slightly projecting chimney breasts with
corniced stacks and 2 ranges of sash windows at far end with cornices over
on 1st floor. Ground floor channelling carried up to 1st floor sill
course. Bracketed main cornice over 2nd floor and cornice and blocking
course, cast iron area railings with artichoke finials. Interior retains
original elegant geometrical stone staircase with wrought iron balustrade
and plasterwork details, elaborated and added to in neo-Adam manner at
time of refacing.
