Terraced town houses. c.1773 Portland Estate development, probably by
John White in partnership with the plasterer Thomas Collins (associates of
Sir William Chambers) Stock brick with channelled stucco ground floor;
slate roofs. No. 64 of 5 storeys and No. 66 of 4 storeys and dormered
mansard, on basements. 3-window wide fronts. Semicircular arched
doorways to left and right respectively, No. 66 in vermiculated Coade
stone rustic surround with head keystone and added c.1900 Neo-Adam cast
iron glazed canopy porch; panelled doors with sidelights and fanlights.
Recessed sashes, under flat gauged arches to upper floors. 1st floor plat
bands; stucco cornice over 3rd floor of No. 64; parapets with copings.
Mid C.19 cast iron balconies to 1st floor. Cast iron area railings,
No. 64 with flambe urn finials. Interiors (although with c.1900
alterations) retain good geometrical stone staircases with elegant
openwork wrought iron balustrades; swagged husk ornament to oval skylight
drum over staircase of No. 66; simple flute and patera frieze mouldings
and good stucco mythological relief medallions over chimney pieces with
swag and ribbon framing, more in the Chambers manner; etc ; all features
common to these speculative 1st rate houses of the 1770s in Harley
Street.
