Terraced 1st rate town house. c.1774-76 Portland Estate development by
John White. Stock brick with channelled stucco ground floor; slate roof.
4 storeys and basement. 3-window wide astylar front. Broad semicircular
arched doorway to right; panelled door and sidelights in enriched jambs
and cornice doorhead under plain fanlight. Recessed sashes, under flat
gauged arches to upper floors. 1st floor plat band. Parapet with coping.
Early to mid C.19 enriched cast iron balcony across 1st floor. Cast iron
plumbed spike area railings. Fine interior with plasterwork ceilings in
the Adam manner to 1st floor front and back rooms, with inset painted
panels of roundel or oval form, fan motifs and palmette and urn friezes,
probably the work of John Papworth; top lit stone geometrical staircase
with anthemion and lyre pattern wrought iron balustrade; statuary marble
chimney-pieces, mahogany doors; etc.
