Terrace house. Mid to late C18. Brown brick with stuccoed ground floor and mid C19
stucco dressings. Four storeys, basement and dormered slate mansard. Three windows.
Bracketed cornice to third floor. Revealed sash windows with flat gauged arches,
stucco architraves with cornices on first floor, central one pedimented. Round headed
doorway with side lights and fanlight. Continuous c.1800 cast iron balcony to first
floor. Interior has front compartment staircase to full height, cut string and wrought
iron scrolled balusters, returned as gallery to second floor; the ceiling has excellent
Rococo plasterwork, deeply modelled. Doorcases have moulded architraves with shell
motif and Chinoiserie feet to friezes of entablatures, similar moulding to window
architraves. The drawing room to rear on first,floor with a canted bay has the rare
survival of a complete Chinoiserie ceiling design with figures in central oval
compartment and beneath "pagoda" kiosks in the corners as well as deeply modelled
flying dragons all picked out in gilt and pastel tones above a modillion bracket
cornice, etc.
