Corner terraced house. c.1774-76 (altered mid C.19) Portland Estate
development by John White in partnership with the plasterer
Thomas Collins (associates of Sir William Chambers). Stock brick with
heavily rusticated stucco ground floor; slate roof. 4 storeys, basement
and dormered mansard. 4 windows wide with 3-window (2 blind) return to
Weymouth Street. Semicircular arched doorway to left in rusticated and
vermiculated surround; panelled door, side lights and fanlight. Recessed
sashes, under flat gauged arches to upper floors, with stucco keystones
to 3rd floor. 1st floor plat band and sill band; plat band to 2nd floor
and block bracketed cornice over it; 3rd floor sill course; stone coped
parapet. Similar details to return with mid C.19 stucco bow window added
to ground floor and chimney stack shouldered up from parapet. Cast iron
mid C.19 balcony across 1st floor on brackets. Cast iron plumbed spike
area railings. Interior retains some elements of typical White-Collins
plasterwork and top lit geometrical stone staircase with later iron
balustrade; etc.
