Professional chambers and apartments. 1857-58 by Charles Gray. Stucco,
concealed roof. Eclectic Florentine quattrocento palazzo design. 4
storeys and basement. Double fronted 3 windows wide but slightly narrower
return. The ground and 1st floors as one tall podium bound at corners by
massive channelled quoin piers, with central "Romanesque" shafted doorway
under bracketed cornice hood, similar pilaster framed flanking windows with
tympani, the cornice hoods as sills to 1st floor pilastered and cornice
hooded windows. 2nd floor "Romanesque" arched pilastered windows widely
spaced and on 3rd floor arcaded range of 9 windows, some blind, beneath
very prominent bracketed and machicolated eaves cornice. Moulded 2nd
floor sill course and band sill course to top floor. Similar but closer
spaced treatment to return.
