Also known as No 40 Waverton Street. II
Terraced town house. 1752-53 probably by John Balgrave with early
C.20 alterations to rear. Multi-coloured stock brick, slate roof. 4
storeys, basement and dormered mansard. 4 windows wide. Entrance to
right with mid C.19 stone Doric porch with balustraded
parapet, square headed doorway with half glazed doors and fanlight.
Recessed sash windows, no glazing bars, under flat gauged red brick
arches. 1st floor plat band and sill band, cut by lengthening of
windows, thin stone band between 3rd floor window heads forming
rudimentary frieze beneath moulded stone cornice, parapet with coping.
Cast iron balconettes to 1st floor. Cast iron area railings with
flambé torch finials. Interior much altered late C.19 and early C.20
in neo-Georgian and neo-Adam manner but retaining front compartment
staircase etc.
