- Cottages
G.V. II
House and 2 cottages. Early/mid C18. Hammer-dressed
watershot stone with graduated stone slate roof. Double-
depth house of 3 storeys and 3 bays with a 3-bay 3-storey
wing to rear left of late C18 date. Blocked door between
bays 1 and 2 with dressed surround. 4, 4 and 6-light ground
floor windows, three 4-light first floor windows and 3, 3
and 4-light second floor windows. All have recessed cavetto-
moulded stone mullion windows. The top storey appears to
have been added, probably in the late C18, and reuses
earlier windows. 3 rendered ridge chimney stacks. Square-cut
door surround to right gable. The wing to rear, itself built
in 2 phases, generally has a 3-light recessed flat-faced
stone mullion window to each bay on each floor. Some windows
retain the original leaded panes. Bulletin of the
Saddleworth Historical Society, Vol.2, No.3, 1972.
