9/214 Lower Cottage
House. Hammer-dressed stone with graduated stone slate roof.
Late C17 but with an addition dated "IWAW 1742" on lintel
(Winterbottom).Single-depth plan with a total of 3 bays and
2 storeys. Bay 1 (1742) has a square-cut door surround to
right, a window to left with similar surround and a 3-light
flat-faced stone mullion window on first floor. Bays 2 and 3
have a 7-light double-chamfered cavetto-moulded ground floor
window with a C19 window inserted to right: a 9-light
double-chamfered window (as above) and a later 3-light flat-
faced mullion window to first floor. 2 ridge chimney
stacks. C20 windows inserted to rear. The roof structure
re-uses parts of a former cruck-framed structure.
