4/27 Higher Matley

House. C17 stone cladding, part enclosing an earlier
timber-framed structure; porch dated MB 1733. Roughly
dressed stone with slate roof. T-shaped 2-storey plan with
2-storey porch. Rendered plinth. Bay 1 (the head of the T)
has 3-light double-chamfered stone mullion windows with
hoodmoulds on each floor and 2 segmental-headed stone
dressed windows (one of which appears to be C20). Other
mullioned windows in the stem of the T are heavily restored
or C20. 2-storey porch with chamfered door surround has
date inscribed in a recessed star-shaped panel. Coped
gables and kneelers C20. Rendered rear and a truncated
projecting chimney stack to left. The interior reveals the
timber framing of the former building in the head of the T.
The main posts are diagonally braced. A cambered tie-beam
truss with carved roundel panel on the undserside supports a
roof structure with curved wind braces.
