House. Late C17. Squared rubble with graduated stone slate
roof and brick stacks. Double-depth (formerly) central
staircase plan with 2 storeys. Central door has arched head
(probably C20) and stone surround. 3-light double-chamfered
stone mullion windows to either side on each floor with
hoodmoulds. Central round-headed window on first floor. 2
axial ridge chimney stacks. The gables are partly rendered
and the windows to rear have been largely altered. Interior
retains some original beams but is much altered. The former
building on the site was sold in 1547 by Henry VIII to the
Bishop of Chester who became rector of Mottram.
