Town hall, originally a private house and now disused.
1862. W. Williamson for George Mayall. Ashlar with slate
roof. Large asymmetrical plan of 8 bays and 2 storeys
executed in an Italianate style. Projecting plinth, first
floor band and sill band, enriched modillion eaves cornice,
and rusticated quoins. Bay 3, which projects and is gabled
with an open pediment has a tripartite ground floor window
and a first floor window with open segmental pediment. The
porch in bay 2 also projects and has semi-circular keystone
arches on square piers with banded rustication and small
polished granite columns, carved panels, bracketed cornice
and pierced parapet with corner urns. Other windows are
generally sashes with moulded surrounds on the ground floor
and with round heads on the first (none have glazing bars).
Grouped chimney stacks with cornices. The sides and rear
are treated similarly but in a less grand manner.
