Statue. 1887. Sculptor J. W. Swynnerton. Bronze statue on
polished granite pedestal. Life-size statue of Hugh Mason on
pedestal inscribed "Hugh Mason, born 1817 died 1886". The
momument originally stood in Chester Square. Hugh Mason was
a much loved and reveered local industrialist and
philosopher. He established Oxford Mills and built the
adjacent workers' housing.
