5 houses. Late C18 with C19 alterations. Header bond brick
with slate roof. Each house is double-depth and has 3
storeys. Total of 6 bays. The two outer houses have 6-panel
doors with architrave surrounds and modillioned hoods. The
other 2 houses have paired central 4-panel doors with
architraves, overlights and a shared hood. The windows are
generally sashes (most without glazing bars) with stone
sills and flat brick arches. Those to the ground and first
floors of Nos. 38 and 39 were altered in C19 to create
coupled sash windows and those to bay 6 are paired sashes.
Otherwise the elevation is fundamentally symmetrical. Eaves
blocks. 4 ridge chimney stacks. Right gable-end is tile
hung, has 4 sash windows, a door and a C20 casement window.
Entrance to 40B in rear wing. Various sash windows and wings
to rear.
