SD 951139 Booth Hollings
Woollen mill, now in agricultural use. Late C18 with C19
wing. Hammer-dressed watershot stone with slate roof. Deep
2-storey range with internal water-wheel formerly located at
west end. Later wing to rear creates an L-shaped building.
Segmental-arched cart entry, now blocked, with keystone. 2
doors with dressed surrounds and 5 windows with square-cut
surrounds. Recessed flat-faced mullion window with king
mullions runs the full length of the upper floor, now almost
entirely blocked and with a door inserted. Gable chimney
stack. Lean-to addition to right gable. 8-bay wing to rear
has window openings with stone lintels and sills and
incorporates a boiler room and engine house. A heavy square
chimney breaks through the ridgeline. Interior: single-span
floors propped at centre. Domestic quarters incorporated in
one corner. Wheel housing remains. King-post roof trusses.
Used for bleaching and fulling in the mid C19.
