Toll-bar cottage, now house. 1838. Hammer-dressed
watershot stone and brick with graduated stone slate roof.
2 bays with one storey at front and 2 at rear. Bay added to
left in 1911 and large porch added to front. The brick
porch is flanked on either side by sash windows (no glazing
bars) with square-cut surrounds. Square eaves gutter
brackets. Gable and ridge chimney stacks. The additional
bay to left is largely in brick on a stone base and extends
as a wing to the rear. C20 lean-to porch to rear as well as
one original window and an inserted one on the upper floor.
The Rochdale to Halifax and Elland Turnpike road was one of
the earliest in the locality, the act being passed in 1734.
