18/11/81 to west
II
Office wing of former Alder Mill (now demolished). 1907.
Henthorn Scott. Brick with terracotta dressings. 8 x 4 bays
with 1 storey. Red brick with blue brick plinth, yellow
brick bands and yellow terracotta dressings. Window openings
with cambered brick arches and keystones which rise above a
cornice to be terminated as capped features above the
parapet which is characteristic of Scott's work. On the
front side only is a series of 3-light blind mullioned
openings above the cornice. Door to left with fanlight and
archivolt. Above it rises an octagonal corner feature with
cupola set back behind a parapet which echoed that of the
mill water-tower. Other elevations use a similar

decorated panelling, stained glass, Art Nouveau tiling and
highly enriched cast-iron wash-basin stands in a modified
Adam style.
