Ventilation chimney to Wall Hey Pit Furnace. 1840. Stretcher
bond brick square, with clasping pilasters at each corner
forming a recessed face to each side with expressed plinth,
apex drip mould and staggered cornice. Capping missing, all
openings closed. Pitshaft 645 feet deep. This type of
chimney was once common in the C19 and has since become rare
following the technical development of mechanical fans.Mines
