4/86 South Chapel


Chapel. c.1862. Lucy and Littler. Snecked stone with
banded slate roofs. Nave with apse, aisles under pitched
roofs ending in gabled porches at west ends, that to north
supporting tower. North entrance of 2 orders with sexfoil
in gable, 1st stage of tower has set-back buttresses. Bell
stage has 2-light traceried openings with louvres. Cornice
has gargoyles at angles. Spire has angle pinnacles and
lucarnes. Nave has angle buttresses and 5-light west window
with Geometrical tracery. Aisles of 6 bays have 2 light
windows, north aisle has east entrance and south aisle has 2
south entrances. The apse has 7 sides with lancets with
shafts and cornice with gargoyles. Rainwater heads are
dated 1862.
