20/168 Church of St.

Church, 1868-9. Gordon M. Hills. Stone, slate roof. In
Geometrical style. Nave, aisles and porches under lean-to-
roofs, chancel. Aisles have 3-light windows between
buttresses projecting through eaves. Lower porches with N
and S entrances (ritual 'W' is actual E). Nave of 4 bays
has 41ight 'W' window with rose above; paired 2-light
clerestory windows between pilaster strips Chancel E window
has 5 lights. Interior: Nave has 3-bay arcades on quatrefoil
piers. Timber roof has king and queen posts. Aisles have
roofs on 1/2 arches. Shallow chancel has arches to chapels
in ends of aisles; chancel arch has 3-light blind window
above. C20 ceiling. Pulpit on squat marble column has
traceried timber panels.
