Includes Nos 156 and 158 Bedford St South and Nos 29 and 31
Catharine Street. Terrace of 21 houses. 1830s. Brick with
stone dressings, slate roof. 3 storeys with basement, 3 bays
to each house, but 5 bays each to Nos 18 and 20, and those
in Catharine St. Nos 26/28 and 38/40 break forward under
ediments. Basement lintel band; 1st floor sill band; top
frieze cornice and blocking course. Windows have wedge
lintels and are sashed with glazing bars, one blind window
to 2nd floor of each house. Entrances have Ionic porches,
those to Nos 26/28, 32/34 and 38/40 are paired; 2-panel
doors. Iron railings to areas and steps have decorative
heads. Nos 18 and 20 have some blind windows to ground and
1st floors; return to No 18 has 2-storey canted bay. Nos 38
to 48 have 1st floor iron balcony which projects over
porches, 1st 3 bays form return to No 156 Bedford St South,
which has lst floor iron balcony.
