8 houses. c.1914. G. L. Sutcliffe. Brick, partly
roughcast, tile roof. Two storeys. Two ranges of 6 bays
linked by a bridge over footpath, forming a symmetrical
composition. The inner 4 bays break forward under brick
gables which sweep down to form porches to Nos. 54, 56,53
and 55, with doors in the returns. Doors to Nos. 50, 52, 49
and 51, are recessed under straight headed internal porches.
Windows were small-paned casements and still are so to Nos.
49, 51, 53 and 54, but the rest have recent plate glass.
The first floor windows to outer bays are either small,
below the eaves, or tall under half dormers which have
weatherboarded dormers. 8 brick stacks. Linking bridge has
planted timbers and simple balcony to open loggia. This
item is the central block of the main square of Wavertree
Garden Suburb, an area of houses characteristic of the most
advanced housing of the time.
