Casemates and attached flight of steps. Originally designed for the storage of oil products. 1881. 60 barrel-vaulted chambers cut into rock , with concrete facade cast in-situ. Segmental headed entrances with iron doors between rusticated pilaster strips; simple cornice above. At right hand end, a dog-legged flight of steps in coursed sandstone , with rusticated plinth and ashlar bands and copings. The casemates are of special interest as an early example of oil storage facilities.
