Library. 1896 by Thomas Shelmerdine. Brick and stone,
tiled roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays and octagonal corner turret.
Free style. (Interior has decorative iron railings to
balconies, and circular iron stair in angle. Irregular
plan, with barrel shaped roof of glass panels over main
hall, and shallow domed lights over centre part.) 3 gables,
stone dentilled cornices and ornamented cornice bands.
Stone mullioned and transomed windows with panels of
ornament. 4 squat round columns in antis at entrance, with
carved stone panel above with date. Beacon Lane corner has
squat octagon with 4 columns, iron gates, ornamented stone
panels, upper windows, and concave sided turret short spire.
Ornamented plaque recording opening next to turret.
