Public house. 1898. Walter Thomas and School of Art
craftsmen. Ashlar, slate roof. Exuberant Free Style. 2
and 3 storeys and attics. 10 bays, 3 bays to Hardman
Street. Varied fenestration, mostly mullioned, some with
elaborate architraves. 2-storeyed oriel. Stepped gables;
turrets; balustraded parapet. Very good art nouveau metal
gates, by H Blomfield Bare, and stone sculpture of musicians
and musical instruments in low relief. Balustraded balcony
in S-curve. Very good interior with rich work in copper,
mahogany, plaster, glass etc. The gentlemen's toilet also
survives from its original design and has high quality
